Verizon customers in northwest Fort Wayne can experience breathtaking high-speed Internet access as the company expands its Verizon FiOS (FYE’-ose) suite of Internet services to a larger base of customers here.
Verizon began offering its FiOS Internet Service in parts of Fort Wayne and New Haven last October.
FiOS services are now available to approximately 100,000 customers in Fort Wayne and New Haven, and Verizon will continue expanding its FiOS services in additional areas of the two cities. The company plans to pass by approximately 115,000 homes in the area with its FTTP (fiber to the premises) network by year-end. FTTP technology utilizes fiber-optic connections – instead of copper wire – directly into homes and small businesses to enable a broad array of voice, data and video applications.
The company is offering several tiers of FiOS Internet Service with downstream (download) speeds of up to 5, 15 and 30 Mbps (megabits per second) and upstream (upload) speeds of up to 5 Mbps.*
Residential customers who want to determine whether they can order FiOS Internet Service can call 888-GET FIOS (888-438-3467) or visit Verizon’s FiOS Web site at www.verizonfios.com. Small businesses (six lines or less) can call 877-496-9233 or visit
www.verizon.com/getbusinessfios to determine if they qualify for FiOS Internet Service for Business.
"FiOS is setting the new standard for consumer and small-business broadband services in America," said Mike Millegan, senior vice president/general manager of Verizon’s North Central region. "Customers who already subscribe to FiOS services are astounded at what they now can do with their online experience. Video chats and conferencing, purchased digital movie downloads and interactive multi-player games have become a part of their daily lives.
"And FiOS for Small Business gives companies robust connection speeds for bandwidth-intensive applications at prices close to those the companies pay for ordinary broadband services," said Millegan.
Verizon is the only major telecom company in the United States deploying fiber directly into homes on a mass scale. Verizon’s all-fiber network – over which the company is delivering voice and high-speed FiOS Internet Service– is currently under construction in more than half the states where the company offers landline communications services.
The new FiOS-enabled area is located west of Carroll Road just past Bethel Road; east just beyond Auburn Road; north to Pion Road; and south to Dupont Road.
To help promote the service, Verizon employees recently conducted a FiOS Fun Walk, going door-to-door to distribute information to more than 2,000 homes.
Since Verizon began building its fiber network in Indiana, the company has placed more than 7.2 million feet of fiber optics and created more than 200 new full-time positions to build and support the network and FiOS services in the state.
