IPTV Services Help Deliver HD to Island of Guam

Executives at GTA TeleGuam are gathering around a crisp video picture gleaming off of a new, high definition television set. After months of planning and hard work, the team's wait for the first-ever HD signal on the island of Guam delivered in all-digital, IP format is now over. HD has made it to Guam.

GTA reached out to CSI Digital in 2007 as a way to deliver all-digital IPTV services to its subscribers. All-digital IPTV would allow GTA to deliver superior quality television services and be fully competitive with the incumbent cable company. Sogetel Expands Services to Include VoIP and IPTV

Sogetel has purchased Occam’s Broadband Loop Carrier 6000 solution to complete a significant upgrade to its network, enabling the service provider to offer VoIP and IPTV services to its subscribers. Sogetel maintains offices in Nicolet, St. Paulin, Lac Etchemin, St. Liboire and other locations in the province of Quebec.

Sogetel maintains 26,000 access lines and offers subscribers landline and wireless local and long distance phone service and high-speed broadband services. Engineers are deploying Occam equipment at more than 35 sites across Sogetel’s service area, with a plan to offer VoIP and IPTV over Occam BLC blades. Sogetel has purchased Occam’s BLC 6252 POTS and ADSL2Plus combo blade and BLC 6214 ADSL2Plus blade. Sogetel is also using BLC 6450 blades to accommodate 10G transport rings to accommodate IP traffic increases.

Kasenna IPTV Rolled Out in Clarksville, Tennessee

Kasenna_logo.gifKasenna announces that the Clarksville, Tennessee Department of Electricity has deployed a new digital video service based on Kasenna LivingRoom middleware and MediaBase video servers. The new video service, called CDE Lightband, is a triple-play offering that features 200 channels of high-quality digital video, an interactive programming guide, and video on demand service, along with 10Mbps Internet and telephony services.

With this deployment, CDE becomes one of the leaders of a new trend for utilities to reduce operating expenses and leverage their infrastructure by offering new services to subscribers. The CDE was interested in deploying fiber to properties in its service area near Nashville in order to implement automated meter checks. With a network proposed, however, the utility realized that it could drive new revenues by adding triple play services to the network. In a citywide referendum held in late 2006, the CDE plan was approved by 72 percent of voters.

Partnership to Accelerate IPTV Rollouts in North America

Avail Media announced a collaboration with Motorola to deliver MWAVE ("MPEG-4 Wide Area Video Entertainment"), a combination of equipment and services that will enable IPTV service providers to rapidly launch new entertainment services over their high speed data networks.

MWAVE is capable of transporting Avail Media's more than 200 SD channels and more than 20 channels of HD content for access by operators who want to quickly launch a suite of television services without the capital expense and time constraints of building a complete video headend.

Calix Enables IPTV Service Over GPON Throughout Minnesota

Calix announces the wide deployment of Calix 700G GPON Optical Network Terminals across the state of Minnesota, providing advanced information, communication, and entertainment services over fiber to the premises networks. Service providers deploying the 700G line of ONTs for residential and business use include Paul Bunyan Telephone Cooperative, Garden Valley Telephone Co., and Consolidated Telecommunications Co.

Taking advantage of Gigabit Ethernet subscriber interfaces on each 700G ONT and a shared 2.5 gigabits per seconds across each gigabit passive optical network implemented on the Calix C7 multiservice access platform, these service providers are offering their customers bandwidth-intensive IPTV services, including HDTV, as well as massive data capacity and lifeline POTS services over their fiber infrastructures.

MTS Allstream to Use Microsoft Meidaroom IPTV in Manitoba

MTS Allstream will move forward with steps to introduce next-generation high-speed Internet and TV services to Manitoba customers, with more HDTV offerings, personal and digital video recorder functionality, improved guide features and other advances. The new services will be powered by a combination of network connectivity provided by Alcatel-Lucent Canada and the award-winning Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV and multimedia platform.

MTS Allstream is entering into agreements with both Microsoft and Alcatel-Lucent that will enable the company to introduce an initial set of services on a limited basis in 2008. A trial location outside of Winnipeg is being considered.

Sky Angel IPTV to Offer NFL Network

ROO Aims for IPTV Enablement in International Markets

ROO Group announced a plan to accelerate its path to profitability and refocus the Company on a device-agnostic IPTV enablement strategy in international markets. Chairman and CEO Kaleil Isaza Tuzman said, "We are taking operational steps to improve the short-term performance of ROO Group by focusing on revenue generating initiatives in our core business, while exiting non-core activities and reducing our cost structure."

IPTV Service Named 'MITV' a First in the Caribbean Region

Telefonia Bonairiano launches IPTV under the name of “mitv” to its residential and business subscribers. Telbo became the first in the Caribbean and Central America to establish a triple play offering.

Bonairean telecom operator Telefonia Bonairiano NV has launched its Digital TV over ADSL 2+ network enabling residential and business customers to fully benefit from the triple play offering. Besides around 110 live quality channels the offering will also include 50 Audio Channels, Pay-Per-View and Video-on-Demand.
