The HomePNA Alliance announced the addition of SBC Laboratories Inc. ("SBC Labs"), Scientific-Atlanta, Optical Solutions Inc., Analog Devices, Samsung Electronics, Readylinks, Sendtek, and ITOCHU Corporation as new members and the appointment of SBC Labs to the Board of Directors. The addition of SBC Labs, which will represent the SBC companies on the board, builds on HomePNA's strong momentum with telephone companies in deploying the next generation of home networks designed for triple play services. The new members include industry leaders in facilitating the delivery of IP enabled entertainment services.
"We are evaluating HPNA technology as one option for distributing IP-based video services in customers' homes," said Peter Lowrie, Executive Director, Data and Speech Services for SBC Labs. "We look forward to working with the Alliance as it continues to strengthen the HomePNA standard."
HomePNA 3.0 technology, which was standardized by the ITU in May 2005, is a technology option for in-home distribution of new triple play services such as IPTV. Its unique blend of high speed, robust performance, low cost, guaranteed QoS, and the ability to operate simultaneously over both phonelines and coax cables make it uniquely suited to the needs of service providers.
"The SBC companies are leaders in deploying new triple play services and a strong addition to HomePNA's Board," said Richard Nesin, President of HomePNA and Vice President of Marketing for Coppergate Communications. "We are looking to SBC Labs for guidance in our continued extensive deployment of this important home-networking technology. The addition of these industry leaders enhances HomePNA's ability to provide technology that meets and exceeds the needs of service providers as they roll out new services."
"We welcome SBC Labs to the board and look forward to the insight they will bring as SBC companies work to deploy IP-based services," said Jed Johnson, Senior Director of Systems Engineering for Motorola and member of the HomePNA Board of Directors. "SBC companies' strong technical and business leadership will serve to strengthen the functionality, reliability and performance of the HomePNA standard."
"Our interaction with SBC companies on the Project Lightspeed initiative has underscored the potential of the HomePNA standard," said David Alsobrook, Director, Video Products for IP Subscriber Networks at Scientific-Atlanta. "HomePNA has the capability to deliver the performance needed to support services on advanced video processing networks."
