Harmonic announced that Technology Marketing Corporation has named its Direct-2-Edge cable IPTV solution and Rhozet Carbon Coder universal transcoding software as recipients of the 2009 IPTV Excellence Award presented by
Internet Telephony magazine. The Second Annual IPTV Excellence Award winners will be featured in the September 2009 issue of Internet Telephony.
Harmonic's D2E cable IPTV solution enables cable operators to leverage their existing DOCSIS and digital video investments to deliver video over IP to multiple screens, including TVs and the PC. D2E has been deployed by multiple operators including SK Broadband in Korea, currently the world’s largest cable IPTV service.
Harmonic's D2E solution offers unique value to operators because it combines existing digital video and DOCSIS networks, with an architecture based on a modular cable modem termination system, DOCSIS 3.0, VOD and switched digital video. The majority of the components in the solution are already part of existing architectures, meaning that the cable operator can leverage existing investments — while minimizing cost and complexity — to deliver the new cable IPTV service.
Rhozet Carbon Coder is a universal media transcoding solution used by leading media companies including Ascent Media Group, British Sky Broadcasting, Lifetime Networks, MTV, Yahoo! and YouTube to facilitate the creation of multi-format video for Internet, mobile and broadcast applications.
