Envivio Inc. will showcase a technology demonstration with a statistical rate control module for broadcast mobile TV networks at IBC2006 in its stand #1.550.This is the world’s first demonstration of next generation IP-based statistical rate control capabilities for broadcast mobile TV and broadcast distribution applications that leverages the arrival of IP in a network that traditionally used non-IP MPEG-2 transport stream (TS).The aim of this demonstration is to illustrate within a DVB-H broadcast mobile environment the bandwidth optimization and quality gains obtained by the Envivio statistical rate control approach as compared to strict constant bit rate control. The demonstration also illustrates how this approach to statistical rate control reduces the number of elements in a system and employs standard IP routing equipment, therefore keeping costs to a minimum.
For many years the broadcast industry has used expensive and proprietary hardware to provide statistical multiplexing (statmux) features in MPEG-2 transport stream based networks. With the advent of IP-based networks, the notion of multiplexing and demultiplexing sources that are bundled together is becoming less important, while the requirement to fit multiple channels in a bandwidth-constrained network remains essential.
Drawing from its expertise in MPEG-4 and IP-based video networks, Envivio is developing a next generation, IP-based, statistical rate control module for broadcast mobile TV networks that will focus on providing the highest quality video services in a bandwidth constrained environment. This technology is not limited to DVB-H and can also be applied to other broadcast mobile networks such as DVB-SSP, DMB-S, DMB-T, ISDB-T and MediaFlo and broadband IPTV, as well as broadcast contribution and distribution applications.By adding statistical rate control capabilities within the core of the 4Caster M2, Envivio will enable service providers to not only optimize the use of the spectrum, but to also avoid the cost of purchasing proprietary statmux technology.
“Delivering statistical rate control capabilities further asserts our commitment to enable convergence and to empower IP-based video networks with the features and functionality that today only exist in an MPEG-2 TS environment,” said Julien Signès, President and CEO of Envivio Inc.“The technology showcased is also intended to provide mobile operators with an insight into the high level of sophistication that Envivio will include in the next versions of the 4Caster M2 encoder.”
Envivio to Demonstrate IP Video Convergence Solutions from Mobile to HD at IBC2006
At IBC2006, Envivio will also demonstrate the latest solutions for IP video convergence that enable broadcasters, telcos, wireless network operators, and next generation service providers to direct video content to any device using the lowest bandwidth with the highest picture quality available on the market.
Envivio will showcase the following demonstrations:
- Video Convergence - Multirate, multiformat encoding for converging networks, service providers and devices
- Mobile TV - A complete DVB-H ecosystem with Enensys and Expway in the IBC Mobile Zone stand #M323/M324
- IPTV Quad Play - Voice, video, data and mobile TV
- Mobile to HD - Professional encoding and decoding systems for mobile TV, enterprise TV, SDTV and HDTV
- Interactive Enterprise TV - Broadcast quality video over IP with MPEG-4 middleware
Whatever the device, whatever the network, Envivio provides solutions that meet IP video convergence needs from mobile to HD.
