Juniper Networks, Inc. today announced that
FASTWEB has selected the E320 Broadband Services Router to further expand its broadband network in response to the growing demand for Triple Play services from residential and business customers. As Italy's second operator in fixed telephony at the forefront of broadband applications and services and world's second largest IPTV operator*, Fastweb will utilize its advanced broadband network to broadcast all FIFA World Championship 2006 soccer matches over IP, as well as enhance its Voice over IP (VoIP) services.
The E320 Broadband Services Router provides the intelligence, quality of service and bandwidth shaping features required for FASTWEB to deliver advanced, next-generation broadband services over IP. By centralizing these capabilities in the E320 router, new services can be cost-effectively added, while ensuring service performance and subscriber quality of experience at scale. With support for high-density Ethernet, the E320 Broadband Services Router can also efficiently facilitate FASTWEB's migration from its existing ATM broadband network to a next-generation Ethernet-based access network.
"As our IPTV, voice and video on demand services continue to attract new customers, we remain committed to providing high levels of performance, quality, reliability and security," said Guido Garrone, chief technology officer at FASTWEB. "With the E320 Broadband Services Router, we avoid deploying costly and inefficient service overlay networks. Instead, we have a converged intelligent infrastructure to support bandwidth-intensive, high quality Triple Play services today that will scale with assurance as our subscriber base continues to grow."
The E320 Broadband Services Router creates an intelligent network infrastructure capable of supporting multiple service offerings with increased levels of quality, security and high availability. As the industry's highest capacity broadband router with over 200 units ordered to date, the E320 is deployed in several tier one service provider networks including largest IPTV and Triple Play networks in the world.
"As a leader in IPTV and other multiplay services, FASTWEB continues to validate that we provide an open, secure and multiservice infrastructure that offers service differentiation for our customers," said Gert-Jan Schenk, vice-president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. "We are proud to play such a significant role helping FASTWEB deliver a multiplay intelligent network that is a winning business model."
