Kasenna, the IPTV Company
TM, announced that it is working with IBM to develop RegenTV, a community based digital service for the London Borough of Newham. Kasenna will provide two key components to the overall package; LivingRoom, its IPTV service application, and MediaBase, its video server platform. Both of these leading products have been critical in enabling the London Borough of Newham to cost effectively install, deploy and operate a wealth of IPTV based applications for the community within the RegenTV initiative.
RegenTV has been created by Newham as part of its commitment to environmental and regeneration programmes set out by the UK government and with funding from the UK government's visionary e-innovations programme run by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. IBM was chosen by Newham as its prime technical partner and has teamed with Kasenna to provide its LivingRoom
TM and MediaBase
TM solutions to help get the IPTV element of RegenTV up and running.
Mark Gray, CEO, Kasenna, said: "The system being created by IBM for the London Borough of Newham is innovative and the first of its kind. Our solution fits well because it offers a state-of-the-art, customisable application that combines proven technology and end-to-end integration providing efficient delivery of new IPTV-based entertainment services now and in the future. This is ideal for a solution that will hopefully be replicated across the UK."
Kasenna's LivingRoom product is an IPTV middleware system that enables a breadth of services to be provided over ADSL such as broadcast TV, movies-on-demand, subscription-on-demand, free-on-demand, network PVR and more. Highly customised to meet the carrier's branding requirements, it allows the service provider to develop its own middleware application or to customise the application provided by Kasenna. It also integrates with service providers' external systems such as OSS, BSS, billing, provisioning, content management and EPG data sources; cutting out the need for further infrastructure, which helps to speed time to market and reduces the operational costs incurred over the life of the system.
MediaBase is a high performance, scaleable video server technology that provides the underlying streaming and content delivery network for the Video on Demand content of Regen TV. Available for Linux operating systems, MediaBase XMP is the industry's first and only full-featured platform that handles deployment of video in multiple formats (MPEG-4, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and Windows Media 9), from narrowband to broadband to broadcast using open standards on mainstream computing hardware.
