Net Insight announced that Broadcast Service Denmark (BSD) has selected it for the Danish Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) network. The network will be built with Net Insight's Nimbra platform and will reach all households in Denmark. The equipment will be delivered during the second quarter of 2005.
With DTT, digital TV signals are transmitted from terrestrial masts to digital TV receivers in the households. Among the benefits are lower operational costs, a higher picture quality and the possibility to transmit up to four times more TV channels on the same frequency range. The market for DTT is growing rapidly and more than 50 countries are considering to switch from analog terrestrial TV to digital terrestrial TV.
Net Insight's Nimbra platform is used to bring the TV signals from national and regional broadcasters, via optical fiber and microwave links, to the transmitter masts located across Denmark. Net Insight's Nimbra platform TV signals can be multicast in parallel with data and voice services with full broadcast quality and protection.
BSD is responsible for the analog and digital distribution of TV and radio in Denmark. BSD is a wholly owned subsidiary of the two Danish public broadcasters Danmarks Radio and TV2. For this contract BSD is acting on behalf of Danmarks Radio and TV2.
