The Thai network operator, Advanced Datanetwork Communications (ADC), awarded Siemens the contract to provide, install, and maintain its nationwide Ethernet-based broadband network. Under this contract, Siemens will additionally supply and deliver Surpass Home Entertainment solution, which turns the television into a home entertainment and communications center. The solution enables ADC to offer to its customers high-speed Internet access together with a multitude of online services through traditional television. The contract initially covers 200,000 broadband lines.
Winning this order substantiates Siemens’ leading position for Carrier Ethernet. The combination of the cost-effective Ethernet-based access technology and the Surpass Home Entertainment solution was the key winning factor for this contract. With this proven solution, ADC can also offer its customers high-speed Internet access via TV and other services, for example, TV reception over Internet and Video on Demand. These business opportunities are attractive in Thailand where TV penetration rate of almost 100% is significantly higher than the country’s PC penetration rate. In the next step, ADC plans to expand its service offerings to include Online Gaming and Voice and Video Telephony. In addition to these applications, the Surpass Home Entertainment solution also allows operators and service providers to offer additional entertainment services such as digital TV recorder and communication services such as e-mail and SMS over TV.
“We are pleased to work with the strong team of Siemens on this project. The end-to-end solutions provided strengthen ADC’s presence in the Thai broadband access market and make available to the Thai people very affordable high-speed Internet access with a wide range of innovative services” said Mrs. Aphivan Saipradist, Managing Director of ADC.
