SkyStream Networks®, the leader in IP video delivery solutions, today announced that seven telecom operators located throughout southern, central, and eastern Europe and Scandinavia have selected SkyStream's IP video delivery platforms to deploy digital television and music services over DSL in the past six months.
Leading European telecom operators are using SkyStream's Mediaplex-20(TM) video headends to roll out brand new digital television services as well as to add channels and expand existing TV-over-DSL lineups. When deployed, more than 200,000 European IPTV subscribers will be receiving their content from SkyStream-based headends.
"With telco revenues declining from traditional voice services, video represents an excellent new revenue opportunity for service providers," said Andy Lovit, vice president of worldwide field operations, SkyStream Networks. "As IPTV matures, operators can take advantage of new technologies such as MPEG-4 AVC to improve TV services and increase subscriber reach and penetration. The breadth of SkyStream's IPTV solutions--including video headend and edge platform hardware, PUSH Video-on-Demand software and MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoding--allows telecom operators to design a compelling service that appeals to their subscribers and avoid competing on price alone."
